1.3 Purpose and Design of the CYSSA Program

The CYSSA Clay Target Program is a team based YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM for school aged youths (grades 12 and under) which uses participation in the shooting sports to provide it's participants with a positive, life enhancing experience and is designed to instill in them a set of personal values or character traits that teaches fair play, individual responsibility, sportsmanship, self-discipline and personal commitment – qualities that will serve them well throughout their lives and will be instrumental in helping each participant reach their full potential.

CYSSA team activities are designed to incorporate two indispensable elements - SAFETY and FUN. CYSSA participants, led by trained and dedicated coaches, are taught the safe and responsible handling and use of firearms. The learning environment at team practices, and at competitive shoots, is designed to include the element of fun for all participants. Participants discover the joy of contributing to a shared team goal and the commitment that goes along with it. During this self-discovery process, team members develop proficiency in a sport that can be shared and enjoyed with family and friends for a lifetime.

Competition is clearly a part of the CYSSA sponsored shooting programs, but it is NOT the main emphasis of the program. The “Win at all Costs” philosophy has no place in this program. Striving to win while playing by the rules does. Participants are encouraged to set goals for improving their skills and contribute to the team. Honoring the game, exhibiting good sportsmanship and being a responsible team member are the primary values the CYSSA wishes to instill in its participants. It is the duty of everyone involved in the CYSSA – Coaches, Parents and Participants to familiarize themselves with the rules in this handbook and to uphold the high moral and ethical standards of personal conduct that participating in the shooting sports requires.

AWARDS

The big patch, trap rocker and Winchester rocker are earned by attending and passing the safety test and first practice that goes through the trap basics.

The remaining rockers are earned as your progress and are as follows;

Pro-marksman 44% or 11's twice
Marksman 52% or 13's 4 times
Marksman 1st class 60% or 15's 6 times
Sharpshooter 68% or 17's 6 times
Expert 76% or 19's 10 times
Distinguished expert 88% or 22's 10 times or 2 84/100 in competition

These must be earned in order.

The patches/rockers are sewn in this order.

Allstar Athletic in Angels Camp can sew these for you if you need help. You can put patches anywhere you would like - shooting vest, shooting bag, etc.

Scholastic Clay Target Program
Annual 25-GUN RAFFLE

Proceeds benefit the Angels Gun Club Scholastic Clay Target Program.

The Angels Gun Club, located in Angels Camp, CA is a non-profit organization chartered in 1947 and a NRA affiliated club for over 25 years. The Angels Gun Club is a proud sponsor of a youth trap shooting program with 40 team members. The California Youth Shooting Sports Association (CYSSA) Clay Target Program is a team based YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM for boys and girls, grades 12 and under, which provides its participants with a positive, life enhancing experience. It is an opportunity for young people to participate in a supervised, shooting sports program taught by Certified Shotgun Coaches that emphasizes gun safety and skill development in clay target shooting. The learning environment at team practices and at competitive events is designed to include the element of fun for all participants. Good sportsmanship, individual responsibility, self-discipline, positive academic progress and personal commitment are emphasized in the CYSSA program.

The Angels Gun Club Youth Trap shooting program is supported 100% by donations and fundraisers. Funds raised and donated to the program are used for the purchase of clay targets, ammunition, league and tournament fees, scholarships, and travel for qualified squads competing in the CYSSA National Championships in Las Vegas. Fundraising is an important part of any youth sports program. Team Angels CYSSA appreciates your support.
